Will having a lot of pictures slow my website down?

“This is a copy and paste from another website, perhaps it could be answered best on this website”

I have a wordpress website and right now I am waiting for a break in the weather before I go out and start taking a massive amount of pictures.

This summer I plan on adding 1,500~3,000+ pictures to the website. The website uses nextgen gallery to handle the pictures.
I guess this is a two part question.

Part 1# Will having too many pictures in one gallery bog the server down when anyone opens a gallery with tons of pictures? Would it be better to break the pictures up into smaller galleries?

Part 2# I am unsure how Nextgen Gallery stores the pictures. Once I get a good amount of content going I plan on advertising the website. Lets just say 20+ people are looking at pictures on the website. Is it going to overload the server having that many people searching through that many pictures at the same time?

Thanks in advance for your help.

None of you guys have any experience with nextgen gallery , wordpress and a lot of pictures?

Have some patience…give folks at least 24-48 hours to add a reply.

It doesn’t matter. However you organize things is up to you.

Not really. As long as the server you are hosted on has the resources to process the browser requests in a timely manner, the server’s upload capacity and the user’s download capacity would be the primary bottlenecks.

you have to make sure that the pictures don’t have more than 200kb, if so then you’re fine

Why is that significant?
