Will changing an IPS Tag affect email?

Hi,

newbie here… my sister wants me to host her existing website and I’ll set up the web space and email in the next few days.

She is also transferring her .co.uk domain name registration away from 1&1. This requires transferring the IPS tag to her new registration (in this case she wants to register it with 123-Reg). As I understand it, IPS Tag simply notifies Nominet, (the official the UK domain name registry) that the registrar is now 123-Reg and not 1&1.

DNS settings will remain unchanged until she has control of the domain name in her 123-Reg control panel.

So in the meantime, will instigating a transfer of her IPS Tag effect/disable her current hosting and email accounts?

Thanks.

The IPS tag is used to change the registrar of the domain name; it has no effect on any hosting account.

Thanks for that Bear - that’s what I thought.

Will that mean that her email account, linked to the domain name, will also be unaffected?

All that the change of IPS tag does is change the registrar for the domain. It has no affect on any services set up for that domain, including e-mail.

Great, thanks for putting my mind at rest.

Love the line ‘Life is not a malfunction’… I need reminding of that sometimes!

If you don’t recognise the reference, it’s from the film “Short Circuit”. That line struck a chord with me.
