Wikipedia Editors where are You?

Hi guys!

I have a problem, hope smb can help me!
My boss asked me to correct his page on wiki. But as far as I understand the problem is more over than just to correct. " This article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia’s deletion policy."
Maybe you know what to do?

Do you know who created the Wikipedia entry? Have you checked Wikipedia’s deletion policy?

What is the page about? If it’s about him/his business, and is seen as purely promotional, then I believe it is Wikipedia’s policy to remove such pages.

The Wiki Deletion Policy should give you some clues why this is happening.

I hope I know. We correct everything in the article according to policy. But now page is under discussion.

Yes, about him. But he has lot of publications in magazines, famous as first space tourist an so on.

Where do you see the “marked for deletion”?

Of course, I have to mention that he is first potential space tourist from Monaco:wink:

Presumably, then, you’ve also read this, so you know what the issues are with the article?

By the looks of that, editing the post at his request would only add to the issues it already has.

Well, the obvious problem(s) as the page indicates

This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it or discuss these issues on the talk page.
This article is an orphan, as no other articles link to it. Please introduce links to this page from related articles; try the Find link tool for suggestions. (November 2013)
This biographical article needs additional citations for verification. (November 2013)

Have you started on fixing that?

I’d be particularly careful at this point, if you were to edit anything, take some of the most recent feedback on the Delete page into account.

Specifically

I’m not pushing for a delete, but I would certainly advocate re-writing it. It’s so puffy and self-promotional and a victim of WP:WEASEL Lines like “His designs became well-known worldwide thanks to his innovative approach”, where’s the citation or evidence for that assertion? I have lots of issues with it, but they are predominantly stylistic

Making it sound more informational instead of self promotional would greatly benefit the chances of the article remaining.

Fully agree with @cpradio

People tend to forget what Wikipedia is for and what it is not… And definitively, it is not for self-promotion

When it comes to people’s notability and “autobiographical” articles, there is a very reliable natural bench-mark:-
If you have to create your own Wiki article, you are not notable.
If you are notable, as in other people are sufficiently interested in who you are and what you do/have done, then other people* will create an article about you.

*Other people means those independent from you, not people you pay to make the article for you.

I would be glad to correct all in accordance to the rules but I am too afraid to make it even worse, could you please help me and elicit where exactly the problem is. I would appreciate it a lot!

Post #5 seems to be pretty clear what the problems are.

Although each of us that have posted in this topic so far know the SitePoint forum policy, I dare say none of us are as knowledgeable about wikipedia policy.

And the wikipediia policy looks to be both mature and rather extensive.

Nothing to fear, the worse that could happen is it gets removed. Not like it’s a life threatening situation.

If you have the time, read all the various linked policies.

But I think if you
tone down the glow - maybe put in a few negatives, ventures that failed etc.
provide reliable references

It could help

The point is, make it read like an objective synopsis for impartial readers, not like something written to please the person it;s about, and not like it’s trying to persuade others how great he is. Make him human.
