Why XML is important?

Hi, why XML is important in web services ?

Would you put it into context? Important for what?

by definition web services use wsdl (web services description language) so it is not possible to create a web service without xml. so your question is recursive

The W3C defines a Web service generally as:- a software system designed to support interoperable machine-to-machine interaction over a network. The W3C Web Services Architecture Working Group defined a Web Services Architecture, requiring a specific implementation of a “Web service.” In this: a Web service has an interface described in a machine-processable format (specifically WSDL). Other systems interact with the Web service in a manner prescribed by its description using SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) messages, typically conveyed using HTTP with an XML serialization in conjunction with other Web-related standards.

Wouldn’t JSON be an alternative in some cases?

thank u for highlighting that, just did a read up and found out that u can implement a web service with JSON, will definetly give it a go as my JavaScript is on point. here is an article that compares implementing a webservice with xml and json http://www.seguetech.com/blog/2013/04/01/xml-vs-json-web-services-best-choice

Thank you seems JSON is the best choice.

XML is a extended version of HTML That’s why XML is imported
in web services. Most important, XML provides a basic syntax that can be used
to share information between different kinds of computers and different applications.

No it isn’t they are completely different.

XHTML is HTML rewritten as XML and so is related to both HTML and XML but apart from that the two have nothing in common except for both being markup languages.

Web services totally depends on the ability of the parties to communicate with each other, even using different information system. XML makes data portable, that integrated the data both internally as well as externally. So, it is very important for enterprise integration applications. That’s why it is related to web services.

Thanks everyone.

We don’t need any general "XML is … " replies
