Winter is one of my favorite season, but why do people think if we like winter we are sad and depressed?
No idea. I don’t think that. A bit weird maybe, but not necessarily sad and depressed…
I thought bears hibernated in the winter
Sun bears and giant pandas don’t.
Because it’s darker then? I prefer spring and autumn because I don’t like extremes, I suppose it depends where you live, if it’s somewhere where winter is pretty, with some snow and bright sunny, cold days etc then ok, but if you just have 4 months of dark, foggy, rainy days then yes, I probably would think there’s something wrong
It’s all down to your genetic history…
If your ancestors came from a hotter climate then winter conditions would usually be oppressive, not least because of lack of food, the cold, longer nights, less sunshine. The natural assumption for the would of course be to think that winter would be oppressive to everyone else as well.
Conversely if you ancestors came from a colder climate then winter conditions wouldn’t be so oppressive as they were used to living and surviving in those conditions, in fact the summer would be oppressive to them, the heat in particular. Again a natural assumption that summer would be oppressive to everyone else.
Surely it is summer when people get depressed - probably because it is too unbearably hot to go outside and the electricity bill ends up really expensive because of the air conditioning running full blast in order to keep the interior of the house at a bearably hot level.
At least by winter the outside temperature is low enough for comfort.
Of course in countries where it snows things are different. Their summers are about the same temperatures as our winters and the temperature in winter gets low enough to need to wear a jumper or even a coat when you go outside (that’s still much cheaper than the air conditioning though).
I like winter season. I think in winter the weather seems not clear some times because of fog, tress become life less .When snow falls people have to suffer a lot for that.
You could say the same about winter… although you’d be heating your house.
I don’t find winter depressing but I do prefer the summer hands down. I like the long days, the beer at the terrace after work and the hot weather.
It’s not that I want to feel 40ºC but if I had to choose, I’d prefer that than the usual 8-10º C average than we have in Madrid (and for me, that’s pretty cold… imagine when it goes below 0! ). Obviously, with lots of water to drink and, why not?, a good swimming pool nearby
I don’t think that in winter liking people are sad & depressed. Its not like that. May be most people like winter more than other season. Its just my opinion.
No - it is quite warm here in winter. About as likely to turn on a fan as to turn on a heater during winter here. Winter temperatures here are usually still around 15 - 20C
nah. never get that from my friend or co-workers that like winter.
People who like winter usually go skiing, and don’t mind it. they like polar bear type activities.
I hate winter…but it makes me appreciate all other three seasons more.
I don’t think there is any connection between liking winter and being depressed or sad.
Why not?
What do people say for those born in summers, autumn, monsoon and spring
Hello everybody,
it depends upon person to person and depends you belong to which country. for example if a person belongs to ice land or green land country where there is cold for 24 hours and 12 months . There are many reasons why people hate winter. they are dryness problem in skin , wearing excess of clothes , woolen clothes and lot of ice . some people stuck on roads due to heavy snow. So this is nature .
thanks
We weren’t talking about born, but still, interesting question. I don’t know? What do they say?
I don’t know. Who think we are sad and depressed? never heard that - weird maybe, but not sad and depressed
I love the winter, it’s one of my favorite times. I can ski, snowboard, ice fish, scale mountains, ice climb, ice bath etc etc and etc
Winter is fun, not depressing
I may agree up to a point… because the statistics say that in places and periods where you don’t see the sun for a long, long time, the number of suicides increase… And I guess that if people kill themselves is because they were depressed.
I would not that you’d be an exception though… You’d probably be happily jumpings with a skateboard or fishing in the middle of a storm or something like that
But presumably they’re people who don’t like winter, not people who do.
