I’ve seen some amazing video tutorials for like Photoshop and graphic design related tutorials but as far as programming goes… it’s non-existent. Sure~ there are great “written” tutorials and it does the job well too. However, tutorial video is vastly far better way to teach someone. As the saying goes, “one picture is worth thousand words”. So if it’s one video then it must be worth billions of words (since there’s 30fps for 1 hr video :goof:). Anyways, after playing w/ a software called Camtasia, I’m tempted to create a high grade tutorial video for fun. I guess someone should start.
I don’t know if there really would be much value in videos about programming per se, but I could see value in videos working with different IDE tools. Which I think is more of what the videos that you’re describing above do…
For example, setting up the tomcat servers in Eclipse or using some of the other plugin tools.
I’ve personally found it difficult to figure out what some people are explaining when dealing with eclipse and some of the plugins for eclipse and like you stated, a video is worth a metric boat load of words.
Why not? Go for it! One of the secrets to success in life is being able to recognize an unmet need and filling it. Most just complain of the lack or wait for someone else to do it.
If you think it’s a good idea, you can be almost certain many others (the silent majority) do too.
