Why are backlinks dropping?

I have this SEO monitoring tool and just a normal way of submitting to directories, bookmarks and other form of submittion but my backlinks continuously dropping down, and i don’t think it is normal because day after day links are still dropping? anyone can help me find the cause and solutions?

<snip/>

Well, there may be various causes for this. It may be that you post somewhere, try to include your signature to get a backlink but this link is removed… which is what you’ve done here… why? maybe you’re not complying with the rules of that particular site and you don’t even know because you haven’t taken the time to read the rules.

I’m just pointing out what happened here, in SP and your post.

So the very first question is: what are you doing to get those backlinks? where are you posting? Forums? Social Media?

The second question is: if your backlinks are constantly dropping… could it be that your content is not that good and people remove the link for this reason? or because your niche has nothing to do with what they do, it is completely unrelated to them and therefore not interested in linking to your site?

Thanks for the reply, i’ve been posting my site to all directories and social medias and other site might relate and fill the gap between the exchange links, however that last part you said the content literally i did not even try to figure that out.

Hey, Google changes it’s strategy day by day. I think this is the main reason of dropping your backlinks. I suggest you that provide good and new fresh content every week. This is very helpful for you because google always give preference to new unique content.

I think you are lacking somewhere in quality back links. Google giving more priorities to quality back links and ignoring low quality back links.

I think It could be a reason…

Some backlinks are losing their potency, such as forum, profile, and blog commenting links. I too thought that once a link is there, it’s there. Google has the power to discredit previous link strength, but I don’t know about removing links.

I am also getting the same results. My site back links are also dropping day by day.Even though i am putting good and unique contents, but it is showing any improvements. Can anybody please help with this problem ?

As Rouny said, Google changes its strategy every single day but there are a few things that are very likely to help. Working smarter is better than working harder.

What I mean that it is great to have thousands of backlinks but it is much better to have fewer backlinks of higher quality. So how do you do that? What you’re doing till now it is great but if you do it the right way.

Regarding directories, make sure that your links is listed in the right section (yes, I know, sometimes it is not that easy to figure out where’s the right section but it is important)

Regarding social media, each media has its own pros and cons so the very best than you can do is to know those who interest you and work on them hard. Social media is the modern word of mouth and its success relies on trust. So while you may have some luck providing an interesting topic, or creating a new fad, the hard part comes when you want to maintain that success. That’s where trust hits in. You don’t build trust in Twitter the same way that you do in Facebook, even if they’re similar.

Forums are also a good example of trust. Unfortunately, many people don’t understand this and post once or twice simply to drop their links. That’s not the way. You should choose a forums that you really like and be and active member and use your signature to show your site. But don’t post rubbish simply to expose the signature. The trick is… simply enjoy what the forum has to offer and be active. When you act as a regular member and stop worrying about your signature and about expose it as much as you can, something funny happens. Little by little, regular people get to know you, get curious about you and want to figure out what you do and… bang! they click your link.

Wether the forum is follow or no-follow is irrelevant. The thing is that the number of people that click on that link are real, and there may not be many of them but if they see what they like, they tell their friend, they tweet it, they facebook it, etc, etc, etc. And they do it because you built trust by showing your willingness to help and your curiosity. They know you now.

You are right. google counts only quality backlinks. On indexing it indexes all & will filter the bad ones once in a while. Try articles & authority links from authority websites.

backlinks could be dropping for any number of reasons - i assume your monitoring tool is checking them using google or yahoo. these do tend to naturally fluctuate. some of it depends on the date centers that are being queried too. also I’ve found over time that google certainly won’t ever show you or anyone else the real numbers how many of your backlinks they have in the main data source and in the secondary index either. mine fluctuate.

and I also assume from what I read that over time google tends to drop backlinks that come from sources with thin content or backlinks from bad neighborhoods or those that are repetitive (say a Detail page in a directory which would have the same description as the listing in the Category page, unless there’s something unique on the Detail page, more detail or whatever) or that the bot and search engine somehow decide aren’t ‘worth’ indexing and cache-ing regularly - that all takes up energy and space.

so part of the solution as already noted is to write better content, refresh old content, add regular new content, and/or get better quality backlinks that will tend to stay in the main google index longer…

I thought you had a relationship with your unrelated niche… So that you back links are frequently dropping…!

Now this sentence needs a bit of explanation for me. I may be too thick but… how can you have a relationship with your unrelated niche? unrelated means that there is no relationship!

Actually , I mean that he may be done link exchange with unrelated niche of his website or else, he done overwhelming of blog commenting with unrelated niche

unrelated means not that there is no relationship… It means completely inappropriate or dissimilar of this theme…

What I am feeling is:

  1. Your blog posts/ forum posts or other posts have been removed from the website. Quite possible it is not according to their regulations.

  2. You are posting at non-relevant websites, whose theme doesn’t apply to the webpage you point.

Quality posting, relevancy is a factor you can adopt with your task. Don’t rely in just making submission, link to those high PR website in your niche category. I agree with molona, Try to read the rules and regulations of every sites you are going in to, so that your site will not get hurt.

Guys,
I have the same problems for 3 days. I have tested my site’s backlink through many backlink checker. Specially I like SeoSpyGlass. It is showing only 1 backlink till last night. The only one backlink is from Problogger. Yesterday night I have investigated the reason.
Google has updated the algorithm last week as usually. This algorithm will focus on rewarding quality and relevant content vs. quantity of lower-quality content. The new share feature of facebook is being counted by Google’s new algorithm update. From the last year, Google is trying to prevent webmasters to manipulate the search results. That is why they are not counting all the backlinks like before. You will notice Google is only counting the inbound links from high PR page or from very relevant to your content.

i perfer visit competitor site and show it’s backlink and submit that’s site in your unique content that’s better way

your site on page is not strong or if your site is New than google not have in our database he sent to our index box . please waite some time may rank your keyword Rank in search engines.

Things are not as simple as i thought but you are really can help guys! From the time i post here, there are too many reasons why backlinks drops i am head up to conclusion that it was the submitting of my site to link exchange that maybe in not related to what my site do. but still im struggling. If google filters all backlinks maybe i should stop submitting from those link exchange sites or minimal my submitting every week. Is this good?
