Which "Thesis" theme to get?

I am having the darnedest time figuring out the pricing for the Thesis WordPress theme. The website gives two prices: one for a developer’s version and one for a single site. I understand the single site price. But I don’t understand what you are entitled to with the developer’s version. If I bought the developer’s version, then could I use it to create multiple websites/blogs for an indefinite number of clients? And if a client wanted to be able to maintain the site themself, then they would pay for a “Client Site” option at $40.00? I’m sorry for bringing my question here, but the Thesis website has very little information on this subject, just a few footnotes. Thanks!

In this kind of situation the developers version allows you to locally host a site on your own server and learn how to use the product. So you can put it up privately and get the feel of how to use it before commiting to purchasing a license - kind of a paid trial version.
If you want to implement it for other sites and clients then you would probably need the full license.

I’m sorry, I don’t think I explained myself very well. Here’s the pricing straight from DIYThemes:

The Developer’s Option states that for $164, you will have:

Unlimited use of Thesis on sites that you own. (Footnote 1)
Access to all-new beta versions of Thesis before final release!(Footnote 2)
Access to Client Site Options, which allow you to deploy Thesis on sites for clients (Footnote 3)
Access to members-only Answers and Forums
Lifetime Thesis upgrades

Then, on the “Personal Option $87”

Use of Thesis on one live website and one localized development server
Access to the Developer’s Option Upgrade for only $77 (Footnote 4)
Access to members-only Answers and Forums
Lifetime Thesis upgrades

Footnote 1: “Sites that you own” are any sites where you are listed as the person (or business) who registered the domain. Also, no matter which option you purchase, you may never resell Thesis as-is or bundle it with other products that you sell or distribute. :leftwards_arrow_with_hook:

Footnote 2: Developers get to use and test the newest versions of Thesis before they are released to the public. Basically, this means you’ll get the new stuff weeks in advance of everyone else! :leftwards_arrow_with_hook:

Footnote 3: A single Client Site Option is $40, but you can also purchase 5 and 10-site Client Options for $36/site and $32/site, respectively. :leftwards_arrow_with_hook:

Footnote 4: Under the current pricing structure, you can upgrade to the Developer’s Option for only $77. However, once Thesis 2.0 hits the market, the upgrade price will increase—yet another reason why it pays to go ahead and get a Developer’s Option! :leftwards_arrow_with_hook:

I guess my confusion is in the terminology “Sites that you own.” I won’t own my client sites (I am pretty much a novice and am doing sites for friends right now), even though I will get them all set up. And, I don’t understand the “Client Site Option,” which seems contradictory to having to “own” the site. What I want to be able to do is to use Thesis on multiple sites for various friends/clients. What I’m thinking is that if I buy the Developer’s Option, I will pay $164 up front, then if I want to deploy it on various sites, I will have to pay $40 per site.

I would definitely be asking DIYThemes these questions if I could find a place on their site in which to pose my questions. And doing a Google search has not been helpful, either. Any clarification would be much appreciated.
