Where to go after Logging-Out

Regardless of whether anyone wants to construe my previous post as “angry” or whatever, one of the functions of ALL thread discussions is to post with an eye towards future readers. A year from now, someone may have a similar question as Debbie has. I stated my opinion strongly (as I so often do – crusty and hard to get along with, remember?) not because I’m angry at the topic or any of the posters, but because I feel strongly about the subject. It is a worrisome trend for Web sites to try to “control” their users in many, many different ways. I never liked it, and I take a position against it when I see it. If someone comes in later and finds this thread, I’d like for them to see how much people such as myself dislike having sites try to control their usage.

“P0rn storming” is an old term used to define a practice of Web sites that hammer their users with flurries of popups and automatically opening browser windows with unwanted content. Although the practice apparently began with p0rn sites, it has been used by many other sites as well. I do not consume p0rn, and I have little regard for those who do.

I find the implication that I “attacked” a user because of her gender offensive and baseless. Anyone who knows me knows I consider myself a proud feminist and a supporter and defender of women. If anyone wants to continue hurling personal insults on this or any other issue, take it off the boards and we can discuss it on an individual basis.

Thanks to those who attempted to clarify my previous post, and thanks to those who have attempted to redirect the thread back onto its original course.

And for those who were paying attention, I was a pretty good listener on this thread, and I thought I implemented something that addressed others’ concerns including yours…

My Log Out function gives Users a chance to…

  • Know they successfully Logged Out
  • “Get the Hell Out of Dodge” if they so choose
  • Log Back In if they want to
  • Or, Log Back In as someone else if they want to
  • Go to the Home Page
  • Or Navigate to other Key Areas
  • With NEVER ANY ADVERTISING, ANYWHERE, EVER!!! (Some of us intend to make $$$ on “Quality Content” versus all of those other wannabees that need to rely on advertising…)

And I did all of this with One Click, One Screen, and Two Modest Buttons

What in God’s Green Earth could anyone else want?!

Rant all you want, but it might help to point out that I went out-of-my-way to implement other people’s advice that is pretty consistent with your own likes/dislikes.

I try harder than about anyone to be a good, proper, and well-grounded Web Designer and Web Developer, so maybe people should cut me some slack and acknowledge that I am doing the best I can…

There! There is my “rant”?!

Debbie

yep agree

To me, all the posts from post 20 (inclusive) is basically tripe and should be deleted. They remind me of 4 year olds throwing sand at each other in the kindergarten sand pit

Personally, I don’t have any issues with Debbie’s log out page except for the results code and I described why earlier.

If I was presented with Debbie’s logout page then for me it meets both of Black max’s requirements. It confirms I have logged out and it lets me be totally free in where I go next.

I can still click on any of my favourites/bookmarks in my browser and I can still type any url I want to go to in my browser’s navigation bar.

So I don’t see how Debbie’s logout page is restrictive in any way whatsoever. If someone does find it restrictive in any way, please post how you find it restrictive

To be fair, you did nothing BUT rant. I hope you have the answers that you want because I’m closing this. It isn’t the kind of thread that I like to encourage around this place.
