Where are downloads?

I have downloaded standard Joomla and art sexy lightbox but I can’t find them on my computer. I have checked the downloads file and they are not there. When I do find them I have to install the lightbox in the joomla extension folder. I have absolutely no idea how to do this. Can anyone help?

This is the message sent from artetics:

We have sent you the download link. Extension can be installed using
standard Joomla! installation procedure in Extensions ->
Install/Uninstall.

Where does joomla come into the installation process and how is it done.

On the pdf manual for art sexy lightbox this is the instruction:

Using the extension
Extension comes as module and plugin. After you receive the dow nload link you need to install both plugin and module in Extensions -> Install/Uninstall in your
Joomla! back-end

Please let us know if you need more assistance with this.

From me:

I have downloaded art sexy lightbox and I cannot find it on my
computer.
I have checked “my downloads” and have done a search but I cannot find
it.
Earlier I downloaded joomla and that is in some area I can’t find.

Besides all that, the instruction for installing art sexy lightbox
tells me to install it in the extension of joomla. I have absolutely no
idea what this means. I have no idea where to go, what to open. Do you
have a step by step guide to help me with this. I really am just fed up at the moment.

From arctetics:

Hello,

I have downloaded joomla. How do I provide you with admin access to

From artetics:

Have you installed Joomla! on server? Here is the tutorial how to do
this:

After installation you can send us the login/password of created admin
user and server URL.

From me:

Dear arctetics.com team,

Thank you for your help and patience.

I have extracted the zip files for Joomla! and for Art Sexy Lightbox.

Joomla is in my Documents folder and Art Sexy Light box is one of my
folders.

I hope this means they are installed.

The tutorial tells me to Open a new tab or window and then type in the
address to the folder in which I uploaded Joomla 1.6 . The address is
C:\Users\Declan Dunne\Documents\Joomla_1.6.1-Stable-Full_Package[1]

A list of twenty files and folders (administrator-language etc) comes
up.

The tutorial then asks me to select a language but I cannot get into
this
area.

Can you help me with this?

I would give you login-admin of created user/server but I have no way of finding out this either unless I am told how to do it.

I am sorry for this but I am still no wiser as to how I should proceed.

Thank you for your help,

Declan.

From artetics:

Do you try to install this on local computer or server in internet?

Regards,
artetics.com team

From me:

Dear artetics.com,

I am setting up a website and I want to use a thumbnail gallery which is
why I have purchased Art Sexy Lightbox so I can use it as a plug-in to my
site. I have not published the site yet.

I do not know what way I should install this Arts Sexy Lightbox. I am in
your hands as to how to do it. If I need to install it on my local
computer in order to use it as a link to my website I will do that. If I
need to install it on server in internet I will do that. I do not know
which I should do. I am in your hands. I need to know which option to
choose and how to do it.

Thank you for you help,

Declan

From artetics:

We can install the extension for you only if you have server in internet
that is running Joomla!. It’s not possible for us to access your local
computer.

The link we sent you
(How to Install Joomla 1.6 Tutorial - OSTraining)
tells how to upload Joomla! to server and install it (“Upload and Extract
to Server” section). Have you ever installed Joomla! CMS to internet
server?

Regards,
artetics.com team

Yes I started both. I have taken out the forward slash in between your and host and it is still not working I’m afraid.

Ok, it sounds like you are trying to do a couple of things here:

  1. Install Joomla.
  2. Install the lightbox extension.

I am far from an expert with Joomla but I do have a broad idea of how the instal should go. To make Joomla work on your computer you need a web server (usually Apache), PHP scripting, plus a database (usually MySQL). Then you have unpack Joomla’s files in a directory that is mapped to Apache.

Are you on a Windows computer, Mac or Linux?

If you are on Windows based on the trouble you’ve had so far, I would suggest installing Joomla using MS Web App installer. It does all the work of figuring out where to put things, setting up the server, database etc… You can get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx

  • MS Web Platform Installer will install Joomla 1.6 (or any of the dozens of apps) using IIS server… It shouldn’t matter but it is a different server than Apache.

Once you have Joomla installed you can follow the directions from the module vendor on how to get it working.

Thank you awasson for your very helpful reply. You are quite right about me trying to do two things. I had dowloaded ampps but when I input http://local/host/joomla I cannot get into the Joomla instruction page. I will try th download you suggested. Thank you for your help.

there should not be a slash between local and host in your url. Are you using xampp or something?

Yes xampp

did you start apache and mysql through the xampp window?

Ok, so if you have Xampp, you don’t need the link I sent earlier… They’re both similar ideas coming from opposing directions.

You should be able to make sure that your apache server is working by opening http://localhost in your web browser. You’ll probably get the typical Apache “Success” page.

Going forward, you need to make sure that Apache is mapped to the directory you downloaded and unzipped Joomla too and Joomla is installed correctly.

Have a look at this tutorial: Use Joomla! 1.6 on your own computer - Joomla! Documentation

Windows Firewall had been blocking Apache so I have enable Apache.

I am now getting this error when I type in mthe local host address:

Warning: require_once(C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla15/includes/defines.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla15\index.php on line 19

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla15/includes/defines.php’ (include_path=‘.;C:\xampp\php\PEAR’) in C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla15\index.php on line 19

I have managed to get on to the local xampp page and I have checked status but SMPT and Tomcat services are deactivated

Ughhh… Is that the same error for http://localhost and http://localhost/joomla

It sounds to me like one of two or three things:

  1. Apache isn’t finding the files it’s looking for.
  2. The permissions on Windows or Apache aren’t allowing the regular web user to access those include files.
  3. Joomla didn’t install correctly and the files are missing.

Have you looked in your file system to see if C:\xampp\htdocs\joomla15/includes/defines.php actually exists?

The joomla15 folder including all the joomla files is in the htdocs of xampp.

Apache/MySql/FileZillare in the Xampp controll panel are all running (green strip)

When I type in the localhost/joomla15 address this is what I get:

Object not found!
The requested URL was not found on this server. The link on the referring page seems to be wrong or outdated. Please inform the author of that page about the error.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Apache/2.2.17 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.17 OpenSSL/0.9.8o PHP/5.3.4 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.1

When i type in just local host I get the Xampp welcome page.

I think I might download joomlah again. Is that the best thing to do?

Thank you for taking the time to anser my growing number of questions,

Declan

I am stuck on the database configuration to set up joomlah. There are four areas to fill in
Database type ( in which I’ve put mysql) - Host name (in which I’ve put local host) - username (in which I’ve put root) password (this is the one giving me a problem) and database name in which I’ve put joomla15.

The following error that comes up is at the bottom of this note. I am attempting to download joomlah so I can use a thumbnail gallery plub in on a website I hope to publish on a remote server. I already have a doman name/password for that.

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘TYPE=MyISAM CHARACTER SET utf8’ at line 29 SQL=CREATE TABLE jos_banner ( bid int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, cid int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, type varchar(30) NOT NULL default ‘banner’, name varchar(255) NOT NULL default ‘’, alias varchar(255) NOT NULL default ‘’, imptotal int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, impmade int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, clicks int(11) NOT NULL default ‘0’, imageurl varchar(100) NOT NULL default ‘’, clickurl varchar(200) NOT NULL default ‘’, date datetime default NULL, showBanner tinyint(1) NOT NULL default ‘0’, checked_out tinyint(1) NOT NULL default ‘0’, checked_out_time datetime NOT NULL default ‘0000-00-00 00:00:00’, editor varchar(50) default NULL, custombannercode text, catid INTEGER UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT 0, description TEXT NOT NULL DEFAULT ‘’, sticky TINYINT(1) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT 0, ordering INTEGER NOT NULL DEFAULT 0, publish_up datetime NOT NULL default ‘0000-00-00 00:00:00’, publish_down datetime NOT NULL default ‘0000-00-00 00:00:00’, tags TEXT NOT NULL DEFAULT ‘’, params TEXT NOT NULL DEFAULT ‘’, PRIMARY KEY (bid), KEY viewbanner (showBanner), INDEX idx_banner_catid(catid) ) TYPE=MyISAM CHARACTER SET utf8

Thank you, I am beginning the process again of downloading xampp. Last time I managed to get to the database configuration of joomla but got stuck on the password. I have no idea will the same thing happen again. Will xampp ask me for a password for a database that I should use for this configuration in Joomla. I have a website doman (remote) for which I have a password and domain name. Do I need to use any of these when I am setting up either xampp of joomla?

My aim is to publish the website via ftp an I need joomla to run a plug in for a thumbnail gallery.

Thank you all for your help so far. You are very kind,

Declan

Ok, so it sounds like Xampp is working just fine which is great

Maybe when you downloaded and installed Joomla some of the fiels were missing?? It’s doubtful but maybe…

When you create your MySQL database you’ll have a database name. Then you have to create a user (username/password) and assign the rights of that user to use your database. That’s pretty important. You may be able to do that all at once with your setup but the systems I use always have me create the database first, then create a user and finally assign the rights for that user to access the database.

Also, your database server will be localhost. One word, not local host.

Good luck!

Hi,

As per my other answer, they probably mean:

"After you receive the download link you need to unzip the file and then install both plugin and module in Extensions -> Install/Uninstall in your
Joomla! back-end
