When, Why and for what Purpose/Reason was [stream.mp3] created?

The reason why I’m asking is because mp3 streams don’t require [stream.mp3] in order for them to work. All they need is a slash followed by a semicolon. /;

Does anyone know when [stream.mp3] was first introduced, why it was, and for what purpose does it currently serve?

1980s.FM

Radio stream:

What have you googled on the subject? Give us a handful of pages you have read on this, and we will fill in the blanks.

I googled everything imaginable. I couldn’t find any info on it at all.

What was wrong with the detailed explanation offered to you at Stack Overflow? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/38215063/i-have-a-few-questions-about-the-setup-of-an-mp3-radio-stream

But, what about ;stream.mp3? Someone did it one day and everyone else copied and pasted it. Simple as that. The SHOUTcast server ignores everything after that semicolon, so you can put whatever you want there.

Wasn’t detailed enough to my liking.

Simply put, I want to know the history behind it.

Judging by that explanation, you’d need to find the “someone” who first did it and ask them - so I wish you luck with that.

Have you tried asking in the SHOUTCast forum? http://forums.shoutcast.com/forumdisplay.php?f=140

Have you tried signing up? They don’t allow regular people to.

it’s ok.

Then I’m afraid I’m out of suggestions. Judging by what you’ve already been told, and the fact that you say there is no other information available, it looks as if you’re searching for something that doesn’t exist. It is a convention which has arisen from common usage.
