What Web Trend would you like to see disappear in 2014?

With the year 2013 behind us we, naturally, are looking forward - into 2014.
The Internet and the World Wide Web has grown and evolved quite a significant amount in its relatively short history. The beginning of AOL comes to my mind instantly because I was living in Sterling when that ‘Empire’ began its rise (and fall?) and I was among the first customers [I remember the huge press event when they reached 50,000 subscribers].

Many of us can easily recall the dreaded blink tag.

And I know, if you are reading this, you have experienced some pain - manifested in cross-browser compatibility, as a result of the Browser Wars.

A few of us can even recall the earliest days when simply placing appropriate meta-tags in the HTML would yield proper and correct ranking in search engines (like the giant Alta-Vista).

These are a few examples of the trends that have come-and-gone with this global computer network we call The Internet. Most of these I have mentioned are now gone - and for good reason.

What trend, technique, style, idea, et cetera would YOU like to see fade away as we enter this new year?

I would like to see unnecessary use of Javascript and fancy-pants widgets disappear. Even with scripting working farily well cross-browser, I still come across problems with depressing regularity, whether it’s something that doesn’t work in a particular browser or something that is such a memory hog that it breaks, or something that gets in the way of easily using the page.

I would also like to see web users show a bit more intelligence and initiative, and actually making a tiny bit of effort to find out the answer for themselves rather than just running straight to email or tweet when the information they are after is readily available within seconds.

I fully expect to be disappointed in both of these wishes :(
