What makes a web host iPhone friendly?

I have a client who needs to have her emails sent to her iPhone. So she needs a host that is iPhone friendly. Apparently, her Godaddy email hosting account isn’t compatible with the iPhone. What exactly makes a webhost iphone friendly and which would you recommend?

I am trying to customize a Wordpress template for her as well so the hosting should be accomdating of WP. I am used to using Bluehost for WP development.

As far as email (and web browsing) goes, the iPhone works exactly the same way as email clients such as Outlook, Mail etc that live on your desktop/laptop. All you need is a POP email account to get your mail from, and an SMTP server to send mail, both are normally supplied by the host as part of your hosting package.

Can’t speak for what GoDaddy does, I try to steer well clear of them

Like bluedreamer mentioned, all you need is just POP and SMTP details which are provided by every hosting company.

I think she’ll need your assistance in configuring mail accounts on iPhone. As you may know girls are always bad at configurations and calculations.

I doubt if iphone is so much different. It uses standard email protocols and standard browser to access the web, so it’s just like one of thousands of other phones around.

Iphone can be configured with the SMTP and IMAP. Any hosting provider serving them, can be configured with Iphone.

Godaddy Email hosting does support Iphone specifically:

Mobile access, including iPhone and BlackBerry

I recommend using IMAP for iphones and any web host must be friendly for this kind of tasks.

Hi

I too am trying to find an iPhone friendly webhost. I am currently with iPage and according to their help page, it is possible to download the emails from iPage to an iPhone however they state…

"Please be aware that you can configure only one Exchange account per device.

Warning! After you configure an Exchange AcitveSync account:

all your existing contact and calendar information is overwritten
iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer"

This is not iPhone friendly.

Did you have any luck finding a webhost?

Thanks

What I know for sure: gmail emails are very friendly for Iphones and smartphones  Just use IMAP not POP3
Good luck

I’m really surprised about some posts here… Do some people really believe that things like iPhone friendly hosts exist? Then you should also look for IE friendly hosts, Opera friendly hosts, Logitech keyboard friendly hosts, Microsoft mouse friendly hosts, Samsung monitor friendly hosts, and so on…

It is for a business email so I can’t just use gmail. In fact I am actually intending to forward my business emails to a gmail account. The problem is that on the full version of Gmail (i.e. as viewed on a PC or Mac) I can change the sender in Gmail to be my business address. On an iPhone I can only change the sender to be one of the addresses I have set up on my iPhone, and as I can’t sent up my business email on my iPhone it means I can’t send emails from that address via the iPhone Mail App.

The only way I can currently do it is to set up a new gmail account and set the sender address to be my business email address. Then reply to emails through Gmail via Safari. This means I don’t get push notifications of an email, unless I also set up the gmail account in the iPhone Mail App. However then once I see there is an email I will have to come out of the iPhone Mail App and go into Safari. This is what I’m intending to do if I stick with my current host, but it’s not ideal.

You can set up FETCH on the iPhone to pull down emails as often as every 15 minutes but if you go with a provider that offers Exchange email you can set up Push email which is near instant.

I know that on my iPhone I have MobileMe (which is push) and then I just forward all of my important email accounts to that :0
