What is the Image capacity which wordpress can hold?

Hi Friends,

For the first time I am making an ecom portal using Wordpress CMS tool. But I am not sure how friendly it is with the images.Since it is an ecom portal hundreds of images will be uploaded.

So will it be able to support that much of images or is there any special plugin we should use to manage/compress the images or any sort of folder structure should be followed to keep the images so that they can be quickly accessible to the server.

Please suggest?

The answer is in detail. This is first time I am making a ecom portal for my client and he is asking me to ensure that the website can withstand multiple heavy images. Is there any limit upto what number of images it can hold?
