What is the formal name for the navigation links on the left top of a page?

Hi everybody,

surfing on the web I encounter, (often placed in the left-top of the window) some links that summarise the current position the page loaded by the user within the site. Something like this:

Home > Glossary > Definition > My Current Page

If I want to search something about the matter on the internet, but, I don’t know not even what is the formal name for the above thing.
Can you tell me please what is its formal name?

many thanks!

adding note:
you can see also in this sitepoint page at the left-top of the page:

Home > Forum > Design Your Site > (X)HTML > What is the formal name for the navigation links on the left top of a page?

It’s usually called a “breadcrumb trail” or just “breadcrumbs”

The term is “breadcrumbs” and while often they are put at the top of the screen, they don’t need to be at that position necessarily.
