That depends very much on the type of site that you’re trying to get traffic for. Is it a business to business service or a business to consumer? Are you offering a service or are you selling a physical product? What’s your target age?

There are a million questions that will dictate where the best place to find your target audience is.

Twitter is probably the geekiest of social media networks - I would start there. However, it sounds like the bulk of your audience isn’t going to be found on any one network. You may want to consider advertising places like SitePoint and Cnet.

Everyone here is just throwing out a popular social network claiming that it’s the “best” but provides absolutely no reason why. Different social networks are built for different things and target different audiences. The shotgun approach to marketing is simply an effort in frustration. If you want to be successful, you’re going to need to target your audience.

Who is your ideal customer?
Where are they hanging out online now?

Learn the answers to these two questions. The next step is to be where your customers already are. You join in the conversation, listen, respond, interact.

I have to agree that with alpi. Social Networking is good, but if you want to get the word out and have it last past six weeks, you need to be looking at a little broader of a strategy then some tweets.

And above all, patience is the most important piece. If you are looking to be the most popular ebook site in two months it ain’t going to happen. If you put the hard work (marketing) in and stay with it, your chances of success are increased by 1000%.

For me what worked best was by far Facebook! followed by Twitter, Linkedin and then a French social network called viadeo :slight_smile: It is really interesting to inter-connect your profiles on different networks!

And Tweetdeck (especially the new versions) was of a great help :slight_smile:
