What is the best hosting in Canada

Hey everyone.

I was just wondering what the best hosting in Canada is. I would like hosting that isn’t to expensive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Personally i do not use any Canadian web host. But i have heard some good reviews about Netelligent and Sibername in Webhostingtalk. Sibername is an ICANN accredited registrar. Netelligent’s price of shared hosting is not so low.

I don’t think you need to limit yourself to Canadian hosting. US based hosting should work just as well for you. The speed differences should be quite negligible.

Anyway, I don’t know who the best Canadian host is, but I can tell you to stay away from Netfirm and Hostpapa, based on my experiences with them.

I do agree with ldcdc. If speed is the main priority for choosing Canadian host then US hosting is better for you.

but I can tell you to stay away from Netfirm and Hostpapa

i also read many bad reviews about Netfirm

I noticed I made a typo in my previous post. The correct name is Netfirms.

canaca.com was good sometimes back. I worked with them some 6 years back and not sure how they are now.

Thank you very much for your replies, I will go out and check with some US Hosting as well. Any suggestions for US hosting and who to stay away from.

It’s been so long since I last heard about them. They were very cheap (actually offering a lot for a low price) and the got a lot of flack from competitors for that. But, somehow, here they are, still in business after so many years.

Does it really matter where you live? I thought hosting was the same in US or Canada?

Distance could be a concern for some people but then again, I use a Canadian host and since they have servers within the US, I don’t see any performance slow downs at all.

If you choose a good host, there shouldn’t be any difference in speed. It comes down to why you want Canadian hosting. You may prefer to spend your money in your own country or it may be due to a client’s requirement to use Canadian suppliers. There are also differences in privacy laws between Canada and the U.S. so if you’re storing visitors’ personal data, you would want to investigate whether using a U.S. host will mean that your Canadian visitors are subject to different privacy laws than they would be if their information was stored on a server physically located in Canada. I explain to my clients that I use servers that are located in the U.S. and so far, that hasn’t been a problem.

To me, the most important things to consider when choosing a host are a) the quality of their infrastructure, b) the quality and speed of their response to service requests, and c) the cost.

Cheers,
Penny

Actually there are delays. But you will never see them.
