What does pushing pixels mean?

What does it mean when someone says they like to push pixels

It means they’re some type of graphics designer. It’s a play on “pencil pusher”.

Yeah I know they’re refering to Photoshop, but what does it mean

What Dan said IS what it means.

A “pencil pusher” is something that does boring paperwork

A “pixel pusher” or someone that “pushes pixels” just means that they probably do boring work but on the digital side. Pixels are what you work with on the computer, and thus that’s what they do (instead of pencils and paper, it’s pixels and a screen).

Basically, it’s just a phrase used by those that play around in Photoshop, probably doing mundane graphic work (like color correction, batch resizing of photos, etc).

A pixel pusher is an informal term for someone who gains enjoyment or employment by creating images and graphics. They are essentially pushing the colored pixels about the screen to achieve the image which is produced as the end result. It’s a rather cute term for someone who slaves all day over graphical work, kind of like people who develop and program all day are referred to as code monkeys.
