What does CODING a website mean?

Sorry for the young question but I hear of it alot. Would it be recommended to code my site?

Basically it is another way to say Design your site. Since you write html code to create your website it is acceptible to say you code your site.

I can’t say I agree with that. I design my website in Adobe Photoshop. I map out structure, placement, and every element that belongs on the website. Then, I proceed by slicing the design and coding it (which means putting the design into HTML for web browsers to interpret). Coding by definition is a system of symbols and rules used to represent instructions. If you right click on any webpage and select View Source, the code for that particular webpage will be displayed. There are various types of code, all which serve a different purpose. (X)HTML is used to structure a webpage perse and CSS is used to stylize certain elements like: background color, font color, font-family, position, etc, etc.

If you’re new to web coding, there are countless resources available for you to educate yourself. You might try some of the following:

There are literally thousands more. Just explore some google search results

Yeah, I agree that’s not coding. It’s a chop shop! I personally define ‘coding’ as working with with HTML, CSS or whatever in a good text editor from scratch, the old-fashioned way.

Coding means writing source code, which stoavio already explained

‘Coding’ a website is not a literal term. It’s an expression. And using the term ‘design’ was a poor choice as I forgot not everyone actually hand writes their code. I forgot there are cheaters out there! :stuck_out_tongue:

Well as long as I have been involved with web development, I’ve never heard it used that way before. :stuck_out_tongue:

Really? Maybe, like other expressions, it has taken on different meanings? Or maybe I’m just pulling that out of my butt?

:agree:

Well, at least we all agree on something.
