Most everybody who has a well-ranked website is bound to get lots of link requests, usually offering a reciprocal link or a three-way linking scheme. What is your typical reaction, as a webmaster, when you get these solicitations?
I try to make sure that our sites are in the related niche and it has the same or better traffic stats. Hope it helps!
I prefer 3 way link exchanges and throw all the others in my spam folder.
I’ve never yet had a link exchange offer from a relevant site, so they all end up in the junk folder. My favourite request was for a link exchange between a Scottish artist (my site) and a plastic surgery clinic in Budapest. How did they expect me to write the link text for that? Perhaps “Too ugly to have your portrait painted? Then visit this site and return when you’re better looking.”
Link Exchange is not a well method for a site to increase the traffic. Because it also share the visitors, profit, sales counts and more when the other site which one exchange link with you works better than you. so don’t do that.
Thanks,

Most of the requests won´t be from webmasters with high trust or authority. Nevertheless, I think that it´s quite legitimate to ask for link exchange.
NOnpersonal requests are a NoGo - you should show me that you really know my website and that your link will really benefit to my page…
Anyway you shouldn´t overdo link exchanges (also 3 way linking) and favor one way linking … especially high quality and off-topic links. I use teliad, tla and other link marketplaces to search for good backlinks.
Most of link exchanges won´t be from webmasters with high trust or authority - nevertheless, it´s ok to link exchange and quite natural to do so.
Automatic Link exchange requests are a NoGo, you definitely should show me that you know my website and that a link from yours will bring me some value. Nevertheless, link exchanging (also 3 way linking) is just one method and you shouldn´t overdo it. I favor one way links, especially from high quality sites even though I would have to spend some bucks for it …
ROFL, TechnoBear - that’s classic. These kind of carpet-bombing irrelevant link exchange requests are what gives link exchanging a bad name, I think. And probably a large part of the reason why the current vote in my poll is 2:1 for discarding with annoyance.
Speaking of the poll, I see a couple of people have voted without posting. That’s great - please cast your vote even if you don’t have anything in particular to say. So far both “moderate” options have zero votes; I’d really like to hear from some more moderates
I focus for a 3 way link exchange. When I receive an email that requesting for a link exchange I spent time to visit that site and I make sure that it is relevant to my site… then if it is, they will receive a positive feedback from me…
I wish to have links from PR 7 that will be good for my site. I will go with two linking
I have heard that link exchanges are ignored now by search engines.
Is this not the case?
Not at all
Still link exchange working for search engine ranking but you should follow Google guild lines and take quality links and give quality links
It depends how you define ‘link exchange’.
Some people use the term to mean two website owners with related sites who agree to give a link to each other’s site, as it may be relavent to their readers – that will usually be absolutely fine.
Some people use the term to mean any kind of bulk exchange of links, usually an automated process, where there probably isn’t any relevancy or quality control – nothing more than a slightly more sophisticated link farm – these are likely to be blackballed by Google the moment it twigs what you’re up to.
– Well for me it depends on how you create a link exchange. If that site is relevant to your site, its okey.
Now I still doing a Link exchange for my site my as what I’ve said I always focus on 3 way link exchange.
