Website Prototypes for family members

Hi all,

I have an uncle and he runs a construction company in australia i have orginally asked him if he wanted me to a website i respected his answer which was a no but shud i do a prototype so i can show him what it would like it and maybe so he can change his mind i know most websites you can do marketting and all of that but it would be also good idea for him to have his own website for information use on about his company and all of that and how to contact him?

What do you guys and girls think of this idea? only thing that will cost him is would be domain registration and hosting which i can cover that for him as he is my uncle but do you think it would be well worth it to do a website protype or mockup behind his back or would you think its not a gud idea?

as i do think every business should have a website either it be for information or more?

So what do you guys think?

Thanks,Will

Every company should have a website, I do not disagree with that … but if a client doesn’t want one or is not receptive to one at that time, that is their choice. To try to convince them otherwise is going to be an uphill battle from day one and won’t let up during the rest of the project.

Now add on the fact that it is a family member and you have bad ideas all around. I agree with the others, it is best to not mix family with business. There are expectations and if there are problems along the way, you can cause more problems then it’s really worth. Especially if you are offering to do it at no cost. If anything, the decision to do the website should be on your uncle, and if he were to come to you, then it would still need to be 100% business. Contracts, payments, all strictly professional.

But if you want my advice, let it go and focus on other potential clients outside the family circle.

Awful idea. Not worth it.

The dynamics involved with dealing with family members insures you are not getting the experience you would with genuine clients.

You’re setting yourself up to have an ex-family member.

One of my foremost rules is:
Never do business with family!
