Want to create a subdomain with my main domain/name

Hi, I’m New here. I just registered to ask a doubt.

I’m new to this website building, But i know the designing part a little. So i created a wordpress website which is quite easy with no hardwork. Now i want to create a Forum like this. I looked for theme and i found good one. But now my question is whether i can create a subdomain for a forum with my main domain like this - http://example.com/forum ! I know the part to do subdomain at forum.example.com Please help me.

Assuming I’ve understood the question correctly, all you have to do to create that is create a folder [domainname.tld]/forum in you root directory and install your forum into that folder.

Okay ! Sorry i’m doing this for first time. You mean i should create a new folder in the file manager called forum and then i think i should go into subdomain in my cpanel and there i should create the subdomain right ?

I think you may be confusing two different approaches there. You can set up the forum either as a sub-domain ( subdomain.maindomain.tld ), or as a sub-folder ( domain.tld/subfolder ). Which do you want people to use to find the forum?

domain.tld/subfolder

In that case, just create a directory called “forum” in your root directory. Just for clarification of terminology, that approach is not known as a sub-domain (that’s what the other approach is).

EDIT : I DID IT ! THANK YOU SIR

yea i got it now. But if i’m installing the wordpress theme for (domain.tld/subfolder) then how do i install ? I’m sorry to drag this long ! I know some are quick to understand. Thank you so much for coming forward to help ! Great Community!

Good question. I’m probably not the best person to ask on this question, as I’ve not tried that kind of setup myself. Now we’ve got your initial question clarified and a folder created, it might be better to open a new question in the Wordpress/CMS forum, where you’ll find more people who use WP (I don’t personally).
