w3c compliant matter for seo?

Hi, just curious if sites being w3c compliant matter for seo. I know its good practice to have your site be w3c compliant, but wasn’t really sure if it could affect you.

Google is in the business of providing the best search results, not policing the web. They won’t arbitrarily penalise your site for having dodgy code, because that could get in the way of providing the most relevant results. On the other hand, depending on just how bad your code is, it might be that Google can’t crawl and index your site as effectively.

But remember … it’s all about people. While Google might not care about validation errors, if people find that the page isn’t working properly for them, that’s bad. And if the reason the page isn’t working properly because you’ve left invalid code in it, that’s a major fail.
