Visited Link Stays On For Next Visit

Hi, I have a site where just yesterday I added a visited link color which works, however unless I clear my browsing history the link will stay visited in the visited color, I was hoping that people may comeback more than once and that the links return to their “natural” appearance of the active link, I am wondering what my options may be regarding this? Below is the simple css currently in place, many thanks for any advice. Basically I wish for the red to disappear after a visitor leaves and to be clean again when they next visit

		a {
    	color:#00FFFF;
}

		a:hover { color:yellow;
}

		a:visited {color: red;
}

There’s an old rule that goes “LoVe: HA!” This shows the order of you link rules. V (visited) comes before H (hover), so make sure to put the :visited styles before the :hover styles. Otherwise, you see the very problem you’re having. :slight_smile:

I don’t know of any method which will automatically return the links to an “unvisited” state on a subsequent visit. Even if possible with some kind of scripting, I’m not convinced it would be a good idea, as it’s changing the default behaviour which people expect, and could be confusing.

Also, it can be useful to be able to see which pages you’ve visited before. You might be trying to return to a page you read earlier, or you might want to read those pages you didn’t have time to read first time round.

I did change the order as suggested but the result was the same, no big drama. I was just wondering if there were options, thanks for you input

The only way that I know of to return to the unvisited state is for the User to change his default browser setting so it does not remember where he has been.

That’s how it is meant to work. As @ronpat says it will stay that way till the user clears his/her browser’s cache.
