I have recently set up a few link exchanges but as yet these don’t show in any of the backlink checkers. Am I right in thinking that these links won’t show until Google has crawled the site hosting the link? Apologies if this is an obvious question

Well many times when u exchange like 100 links only 1 or 2 will be crawled by Google try to stick to your niche n try to find quality website for exchange
Yes, I agree. The link partner is a high quality relevant site, so I was surprised it hasn’t yet shown up. Maybe I just need a bit more patience 
Yes you are thinking very right until it is index by Google it will not appear on backlink checkers tools. But some backlink checkers are not accurate to so it appropriate to use some other backlink checker to check the backlinks…
If you are exchanging links for getting backlinks then you should remember that search engines like Google does not give importance to reciprocal links. Do it only if you would get good traffic from these sites.
As per the latest panda Update, Google will only crawl and index links with quality content. However, if you want to view your backlinks, There are many tools like Google Analytics, BackLinkWatch etc. Google Analytics will give you the indexed links whereas BackLinkWatch will give you detailed area of where your links are spread across the Web.
- Why you adopt link exchange policy? Don’t you know it is against Google’s guidelines and it may even penalize you for this…
- You can’t see those backlinks in your report until they are not into Google’s link graph.
i would suggest you that avoid taking link on n/a pr sites, you need to take link on pr0+, and after a week check your back links, results will be much better.

If you want to quality back links than do one way link building. google does not give more importance to reciprocal link. There are lots of backlink checker tools available you can use any. But as per my experience they don’t give perfect result.
But my experience points that link exchange are quite beneficial, may be u dont agreed it happens.
