Using .asis for redirect

Hi
I want to use .asis file to do redirect and have the following question

suppose I have help.html file and I created the help.asis file with the rediret URL in it than after I delete the original help.html file will the requests to help.html automatically get redirected to help.asis file?

22,

Not from what I read at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_asis.html. Care to elaborate?

DK

from what I have tested it is like that

if you directly access the help.asis file than you get redirected to the redirect URL defined in it
however if you try to access the help.html file than you get a 404 error

so what benefit does the .asis file serve?

Edit: I think the benefit of .asis is only for redirecting index.html file, so you create a index.asis and users accessing your root dir will get redirected

22,

It looked to me like serving odd MIME type files is the objective. I could be way offbase, though.
