Would anyone object to using a gaming PC rig for a business workhorse? Just some of the custom config gaming boxes are at a decent price but are they just as reliable as some of the business systems from say Dell or even a Mac?
I would expect they fine are but there might be some overkill regarding graphics cards if all you are doing is running a browser and typical office applications. It also depends upon other specifications.
I guess warranty issues also… I just thought of this. If I were to stick with Dell everything in the box is covered for same period of time vs. a custom build would be running through hoops with 3rd party.
Would this be a computer in your home office that you’re using for gaming and business purposes, or are you talking about buying employees gaming level computers for email and word processing?
TBH just because a system is labelled as a “gaming PC” or similar, does not mean it can’t do anything else, from a capability point of view, it will handle work stuff just fine, as long as the OS etc are compatible with the programs required, what it does mean is it will probably manage to do things much faster depending on what it is, as said above graphics is often a big step up from a standard system, but gaming systems are built for speed, but cost more to buy usually due to high spec cards etc, that is all, hope this helps a bit.
I would not suggest it. I have a gaming PC I used to use as a primary work PC as well and it was just a distraction. I would take a break and play four hours of Modern Warfare 2. haha. Sure, the hardware is great, but it’s also a large distraction.
It would be for home-based business personal use and business use. I hardly play games but I do tax my current core 2 duo with graphics and photoshop work.
If it’s a good “gaming computer” it will likely run graphics software pretty smoothly so that’s a good thing. It’s the specifications that matter, not what the computer is labelled as. It’s interesting what you mentioned about the warranty though, didn’t think about that but I agree completely.
I’d personally get a Mac though but that’s just what I prefer working with.
Most of my work desktops are essentially screaming gaming PCs without the graphics card. Got alot of the same issues to work through outside of rendering triangles fast . . .
