Most of the hyperlink URLs on my website include index.htm with them. It seems like Google just likes URLs ending with / instead of index.htm. I have the .htaccess file so they both display the same page. Any idea if having index.htm in all of my hyperlinks has an impact or not? <snip/>
Also, I read on SubmitExpress that “Some Search Engines have problems with more than 100 urls on a page.” Is there any truth to this when none of the URLs are outbound links?
Thanks in advance. Feel free to rip on anything else with the web site that may be able to help me with the SEO. It is a work in progress, and I am still learning the tactics.
Rather than cite links with index.htm on the end, you can point to that file by just calling up the folder it’s in. E.g. instead of writing the link like this:
This is not true that google favors a specific type of url structure, however, it all depends on overall authority of your domain or website. However, url structure mentioned above is better as it contains keywords in it but it doesn’t matter that google don’t like index.htm yeah you can say that it doesn’t look good. And you can overcome this by writing a few line of codes in your .htaccess file.
And regarding your second question, I would say that it’s about 100 outbound links not internal links.
I haven’t detected any discernible difference between ranking a .html page vs a page ending w/ a “/”
However, if for every page of unique content, you have 2 distinct URLs (e.g. a “html” and a “/”), then Google may see you as purposely duplicating your content to increase your footprint.
If you have 100 or any high number of links, it will dissipate your link juice (both internal and outbound), unless you use the NOFOLLOW tags.
There is a lot of speculation about the .html ending verses the / ending. Either way I don’t think any of it is enough of a difference to worry about it.
I don’t think it makes any difference with a “/” or without a “/” at the end of each url. I use “/” sometimes and sometimes I don’t and I don’t see much of a difference on my websites.
