Upgrading from XP to Windows 7

Getting this error on my HP running XP: cannot find windows disks on this computer… Please what’s wrong and what is the fix? Thanks alot!

You should be upgrading to Windows 10. Microsoft stopped security patches nearly 2 years ago for Windows 7. Windows 10 isn’t all that bad from rumors either. It comes with developer mode and other modes. If you were part of the Insider program like me, you get a free copy of the Insider build which later, Microsoft added in bash to it.

I would recommend using Windows 10 over Windows 7 because support for Windows 7 came to an end a long time ago. You also get more features in Windows 10 as well.

Maybe you’ve lots the bootmgr file? That could be one cause

@molona, am not getting such error?

without the bootmgr file, it simply doesn’t boot… it simply doesn’t boot… although it is true that the error will say that the bootmgr is missing

You should have windows 10 if you’ll goin to ugrade your xp.

Mainstream Windows 7 Support Ended 13 January 2015. :winky:

But Microsoft won’t end security updates for your Windows 7 PC until Jan. 14, 2020. :sunglasses:

Hi there me,

I have lost the plot and find myself replying
to what is probably a long dead thread. :banghead:

The O.P. has by now installed Windows 7 and
is pleased that he did not go with windows 10. :winky:

The good news is that I am not incontinent yet.

It’s easily done, when folk resurrect old topics.

Hi there TechnoBear,

perhaps replies to “2 MONTHS LATER” or similar threads
could have something like this…

… added to strategic points of the thread.

This could really help old farts like me. :winky:

There is a “Warn when reviving old topic” message which should pop up if a topic has been dormant for X days or more. I can’t seem to trigger it, so I’m wondering it it was accidentally reset in a recent upgrade.

@cpradio; @ralphm; has anything changed recently? I can’t remember what the limit was set as, but I’m sure it was less than 3 months.

Edit:

I managed to trigger it, but only on a topic which was older than our standard three months for closing. I’m sure it used to kick in at around 30 days, but I’ve been wrong before…

I’m going to guess it is around 190-200 days. As I found a topic at 202 days and that popup appeared.

That’s still a bit pointless, given that our topics should auto-close when the last post is 90 days old.

No disagreement there, it also seems the default is 180 days. So I think changing warn reviving old topic age to 75 would be ideal.

If you went for age 73, then that would accommodate me.

No problem, I always wake up feeling like I’m an octogenarian. :wonky:
