Unexpected T_STRING cannot login

Hi.
I was trying to make a read more function work. I read in some posted articles how to do it, they suggested to add a global variable on a header.php and on a function.php before content(), after adding and clicking update this message came immediately:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in …com/wp-content/themes/simplify/functions.php on line 120.

with this error cannot view anything, even to login to my dashboard.

Anyone out there with idea how to work this problem out.

below is the code

When you receive an error like that, the very first thing to do is check the line that it references.
It appears the_content is not defined (as a function) within this scope, and so, this line:

	function simplify_content() { the_content('<span class="read-more">Read More...</span>'); }

has offended the interpreter.

Thank you Parkin for reply. The issue is that I didn’t change anything else from the original function.php file, apart from pasting and later removed the suggested function before function simplify_content() and the global variable on top of the header.php. Immediately after removing the suggested function , clicked update and then preview, everything collapsed:in position of not even been able to login or access anything- apart from seeing an error.

The system administrator worked out the issue of login, now, new problem found in:all the themes and plugins have disappeared, tried to upload them bring this error:Unpacking the package…

Installing the theme…

Could not create directory. /home…/wp-content/themes/simplify1/

Theme install failed

need help on this please.

Could not create directory. /home.../wp-content/themes/simplify1/ indicates a configuration problem on your server. No one here can offer you a solution to that problem.
You need to return to your System Administrator for this.

Best of luck

Thanks a lot ParkinT.
I had to contact the system admin to restore the site. The site is now working fine. Thank you.
