I’m a little confused. I have a url (www.myName.com) and another (www.keyword-loaded-hyphenated.com). Obviously, the myname.com is for a recognisable url for people and the keyword loaded one is for SEO. The keyword loaded on is simple just three words and makes sense when read. Any what is the best way to maximize SEO juice for this scenario? Should I make the keyword loaded my main url and forward that to myName.com or the other way around?
The keyword loaded one is not long really. it three really relevant words that make sense. However, I would never use them as a link or in print because I would rather use my name. What I really need to do is figure out what to do to get my keyword loaded url to help me the most… if it all
Keywords in domain has a little impact in terms of ranking but the problem is, if is long domain name, the tendency is, visitor can’t remember/memorize it.
it doesn’t matter for link juice… the problem with kw loaded domain is that its hard memorize for your visitors… although both can work depends on how you are going to work on it…
Is one of the domains already “live”? If so, use that one as the real domain and forward the other.
The short URL is the one that you want to give out to people, because that’s what they are more likely to remember and type in.
From an SEO point of view, it probably gives you better results if you use the long name as the “real” one. That way, when a search engine gets to the real page (even if it’s come via the short name), it gets the URL with all the keywords in.
However, the danger of that is that if you’re promoting the short URL, you will probably find that a high proportion of your links are to the short URL. And you don’t necessarily want all your links pointing to a URL that is being redirected.
