Translate my website to Welsh?

Hi,

I’m looking to offer a Welsh translation feature for my website. I’d like to either:

  1. Offer a button on my pages that offer an instant translation from English to Welsh using a remote service
  2. Think of a way to replicate my site into Welsh - good for SEO?

Any ideas?

I’d probably add the Welsh pages manually, off site translation isn’t going to get you any extra pages in the search engines.

Unfortunately on this occasion it’s not possible to manually translate the pages. We have 100’s of pages, and many more that are created daily.

Looks as though I’d need to go the Babelfish translator route…

Google Translate sounds like it might be an option, although as said above the translated pages won’t be in any search index. This will add a bar to the top of each page offering to translate it into Welsh.

Welsh is a pretty minority language though (most people who speaks Welsh also speak English do they not?), so I’m not sure what benefit you’ll really be offering here.

Our site is actually for people living in Wales, and our site is in English. I think it’s only fair to offer the site in Welsh :wink:

Sorry maybe I wasn’t clear, have them translated (machine, human, whatever) and then create the new pages rather than having a translate option on the page is what I meant.

I’m asking how to translate them automatically… I don’t know how :slight_smile:

Google Translate will do an automatic translation (if you redirect the welsh users to the translated version when they load the page - perhaps using PHP). But be warned… automatic translation is no-where near as accurate as manual translation, if you want the job done properly, get a professional in to translate everything. :slight_smile:
