To me its always combination of SEO and SMO and I prefer both to build traffic to my sites.However I don’t prefer paid option like PPC to get those traffic.But It can be handy If you are a PPC expert and have some ideal money to invest.
How about both.
Example:
You place a link on your twitter account and a friend enters … because knows you and he want’s to see.
You place an add on google for your site … and people click it. You do this as you did not reached yet the first position on google ( so that user would enter your site for free ).

Really? What are you possibly basing that statement on? 
Organic traffic is fine, because there’s virtually no ROI. You can consider your work and time as an investment, but your revenue is all pure profit.
But don’t forget that making a site rank in Google and other search engines TAKES TIME. If you can work for 4 months instead of 4 weeks, you have chance to succeed.
Main question is paid traffic & non paid traffic.
paid traffic is PPC. Affiliate marketing, etc. But this traffic is profit of shorttime. And SMO & SEO is non paid traffic is a give a opportunity for long term.
It depends on you, if you want to get paid or unpaid. My suggestion, there’s a lot of strategies if you want to get traffic in your website like facebook. Facebook is one of the best way to promote your business besides of that it is free for everyone.
I don’t think it is a one or the other option. Both paid and unpaid traffic are good for promoting your site. In actual fact there is nothing like unpaid traffic to be honest unless your time and effort is judged as free.
I’ll go for organic method of earning traffics. It was legitimate and effective way of getting cnversion than paid traffics.
Paying traffic??? Well lets say PR10 -PR8. I will probably buy it. But other than that I will say NO.
I would like to say that if you have budget for advertising just advertise your business with google adword and professional Network to Get Qualified traffic,like if you have education related services just advertise your business with facebook age group advertisement!
