Tons of incoming links...ranking still stinks

Hi everyone!

I finished a site almost two months ago: www.culinariafoodandwine.com

In the last few weeks we’ve had almost 5,000 visitors and tons of backlinks thanks to some css galleries and newspaper stories. 78 to be exact. The thing is, it’s still ranking below sites with really bad code for the same keywords.

Specifically:

catering lawrence ks
caterer lawrence ks

Those are the obvious keywords we want to hit hard and even though those terms are in the sites page titles and H1 elements, it’s still coming in 9th, or 15th. Some of the sites ranking better are literally a .jpg with alt text and that’s it! :rofl:

I mean, what am I doing wrong? My sites usually rank really well. Am I missing something essential?

What are your sources from links? Maybe what you are doing is making the site growth appear unnatural by doing too many backlinks too fast. What tools have you used?

I just submitted the url to css design galleries like I always do. Nothing paid for or link farms or anything like that.

Are you using the keyword phrases you want to rank better for as the link text in your incoming links?

Make sure the places you’re getting links from have a high PR

Is your site two months old?

If so, This is why you aren’t ranking that well. Google has a lot of respect for sites that have been around for a long time.

I think nothing’s wrong, you have 153 backlinks and that is not something much .

Just your your keyword as your anchor text. Backlinks from related sites is much better.

You have a PR of 1 in the home page and also your age of domain is just 7 months. So get more backlinks as you don’t have much and also get it from High PR websites.

And tell me what do you mean by “Tons of incoming links”. Tons? You don’t even have in hundreds.

thanks everyone!

I know 150-something might not seem like a ton of incoming links but for a small catering company in Lawrence KS it’s probably about as good as it’s going to get.

I still find it a little weird. This site: http://sugarfootcatering.com/ is beating it. Here’s their ENTIRE SITE’S CODE:

<html>
<head>
<meta content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv="Content-Type"/>
<title>Sugarfoot Catering & Carry-out</title>
</head>
<body>
<div align="center">
<img height="219" border="0" width="650" src="images/_sugarfoot.gif"/>
</div>
</body>
</html>

I mean, c’mon! Does google really value age over…uh, content. That site is literally DEVOID of content. :sick:

Just for having a single Header element I feel like I should get preferential treatment! Haha!

Don’t expect any results until you hit 1000 backlinks mark.
Make sure to put the bookmark button on the site.

Haha! Yeah, the bookmark button would look great on there! I think the AIGA would reclaim my membership.

Organic rankings take time. Even with a sudden surge of links your website will take time to rank. Be careful the links don’t come to fast because that could hurt you also.

You can get penalized if your backlinks coming too fast and only from one method.

Here’s what I saw in a brief scan of your situation:

Any rankings that you currently have are a direct result of the <title>. There is no text on the home page to support any keyword phrases. As a matter of fact there is no text on the home page at all that spiders can read.

I saw no keyword phrases as the link text of any of your incoming links with the exception of “culinaria”. Did you want to rank for that term? The incoming links you currently have are doing absolutely nothing to help you rank for the terms you want to rank for.

With a little redesign and some backlinks using the phrases you want as link text you can knock off all your competition. You just need to learn the basics of SEO. This project should be a nobrainer. If you don’t know where to find the basics PM me and I’ll direct you to some valid tutorials.

I didn’t check his backlinks, but you are, which means from those backlinks he get only PR juice, he need backlinks with anchor text with keyword in it for which he want to be ranked.

Yup, that along with several other factors will easily get him top rankings in a pretty short period of time. That’s why I charge a lot less on a monthly basis for “local” clients.

Instead of working on quantity, work on quality backlinks from relevant, high pr and permanent links. It would help you a lot.

you are not getting backlinks form exact anchor text keywords if you are getting then their quantity is very less to up in SERP :slight_smile:
