Time to First Byte

Sitepoint Members,
Webpagetest.org says my Time to First Byte is too slow. What or who is responsible for Time to First Byte. I thought it was a problem with my webhost, but they said the problem is my ISP. They had me do a trace route and send them a picture of the results. They determined ATT had a broken line. If so, there’s really nothing I can do about a slow Time to First Byte, is there? It shouldn’t affect all traffic to my site, right?

You ISP won’t affest the results from WebPagetest, as it doesn’t use your connection at all. Similarly, if you are testing locally, a fault in your connection should affect all the websites you visit, not just your own.
