I decided to move from Outlook 2003 to Thunderbird 3. I am mostly happy with this move but there a couple annoyances.
The main problem is that Thunderbird keeps connecting to the internet by itself every time I change folder and this makes it feel slower.
The only way I found to stop this from happening is to check the “Work Offline” option but when offline I can’t send or receive mail.
Basically I want Thunderbird to connect to the internet only when I tell it to do so, by clicking on the “Get Mail” or the “Send” buttons. How can I do this?
I only have one imap email account, and I don’t experience these issues when set to these settings - you might want to take this up with Thunderbird’s support&def team.
could you please elaborate? For example, are you talking about an imap email account and changing between the folders within that account - if yes, check your settings at Tools > Account Settings > account name > Synchronisation & Storage:
Message Synchronisation, either check it or go to Advance for folder options.
check Synchronise all messages regardless of age.
If we’re not talking about an imap email account, you can set the time frequency of downloading emails in the Server Settings of each account.
