This is a repeat post but the other thread was really old so I wanted to open a new one.
I am always on the look-out for awesome open source programs.
Gimp is a great tool. You can do the same stuff as photo Shop and this is free, open-source. Just search for it and download it. It takes a while to learn but it’s great. Ah, and I think it had a version that looks like Photo Shop if yo are used to that program.
That’s my choice, what programs do you suggest? Please be sure these are open-source, not affiliate links that you are trying to earn a buck on. Thanks!!
Yeah Gimp is good but Photoshop is the best ever
I really like paint.net. I don’t need all the features of photoshop.
I’ll have to say that these are my favorite apps and utilities in open source. The ones I use the most I guess…
- Chrome (chromium)
- Firefox
- Unison (syncs between multiple computers – like DYI Dropbox)
- Synergy (one keyboard and mouse for multiple computers)
- Thunderbird
- WordPress
- MySQL
- Apache
- Filezilla
- VLC (play any video file)
- Audacity, sound player & editor
- Nagios (monitor your sites and servers)
- FreeNAS - Turn a computer into a storage appliance.
How can Word Press be left out of the list? I like Magento eCommerce, Prestashop and Tomatocart as well.
I have a bunch but five favourites.
- nmap
- openvas
- metasploit framework
- nagios
- ossec
Not too forget Ubuntu of course but that’s more like a collection of open source.
As a developer I could not live without ‘git’
For developers: Notepad++, Putty, TortoiseSVN, WinSCP, WAMP, Red5
