Test planning as a business?

Don’t know if this is the right forum. Please advise.

One of Murphy’s laws: “It’s impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious”.

Nevertheless, I wonder if I might be able to leverage my many years as a mainframer and my CAPM certification (as well as my dabbelings in PHP, XHTML, etc.) to help software developers and/or their customers develop software test plans.

As the saying goes: “developers test code”. That is, a programmer is much better at devising a test suite for someone else’s application than he or she is at making one for him-/her-self. Or, put yet another way, an effective test likely will include aspects the programmer/designer didn’t anticipate.

What do you think? Is there a market for someone who independently devises test plans?

Many views with no response suggests that the idea is not viable.

Thanks for helping me avoid much wasted time and effort.

Or it might just be that the folk who frequent GD are not the folk most likely to be interested in your idea. If you like, I could move your thread to General Web Development & Application Design Issues, and see if you get a better response there.

There is definitely a market. There has been for a long time already. There are methodologies, tools, and companies that are specialised in testing.

That would be terrific. Thank you
