Temporarily hosting my site at a Free Hosting site

Hi everyone,
I’m building a site. In order to get assistance and opinions i temporarily host it at a Free Hosting server. That Free Hosting server has immediately added ads to my temporary site, surprisingly, ads that fit very well the topics of my site, before i even added a “meta tag” and before i looked up for key words.
Since my site is already matched to ads, will i be able to add my own ads when i transfer it to a permanent domain of my own? Will the fact that my site will be a “replication” of another site (it will be removed from the Free Host by the time i get my own domain) influehnce its’ rating ?
Thanks

The ads that are placed on your site will be related due to the content on your site in a similar way to Google Adsense I would imagine. Google Adsense could be a possible option for you once your own site is live, to achieve the same related ads for your visitors. Another option would be to seek private advertising, but this will be more time consuming, and would be hard to attract potential advertising customers to such a new, as yet ‘unproven’ domain.

If you site is already indexed by Google, ensure that you redirect pages to your new site to avoid duplicate content issues. Having both sites indexed will ultimately give your current setup the strength and ultimately a better ranking, which I’m sure is not what you are looking for.

Hope this helps!

If i understand you correctly, delete the temporary free site before loading the new “live” site will prevent any possible damage to future ranking of that site.
Is that correct ?
thanks

Yeah, it depends on whether or not your free hosted site is indexed in Google already?

you’ll be fine to upload, and test the new site, but once you upload your XML sitemap to Google, it will take up to a week to index in their databases. If both copies are indexed, then that will damage the performance of the new site, as Google would assume that you have copied your other site and give that the strength for original content!

<snip>

I wouldn’t delete the old one - that leaves anyone who has bookmarked or linked to the old site with no way of finding the new one.

Ideally, you would put a 301 redirect on the old site to seamlessly redirect people to the new one. However, to do that you need to use .htaccess, which many free hosts disallow.

The alternative way is to put a <meta http-equiv=“refresh” content=“0;url=http://example.com/”> tag on each page (obviously, put the appropriate URL in there rather than example.com). This won’t work quite as smoothly but will ensure that users get redirected to the new site.

Either way, Google will in time realise that your site has moved, and will update its index with the new domain. That way, you keep the rankings you have rather than having to start again from scratch. Another trick for helping this along is, on each page on the new site, include in the <head> the tag <link rel=“canonical” href=“http://example.com/page”>, where the href gives the correct and definitive URL that you want Google to use for that page.

Here we get to the essence of things: It does cause damage to host a site in a free host with ads !
How do i know if that free hosting site of mine is indexed in google’s db ?
How do i know if my new site is indexed ? Would Google come to a conclusion that my new site is “unhonestly copied” from someone else’s site? This can cause great damage to my site at my domain isn’t that so?
Thanks

Thanks stevie.
I’ll have to study what you posted and see how i can use it once my site is done.
Thanks

Wouldn’t it be considered better to always start out on your own site and not a free site?

Once i buy a domain+hosting i can, at future ,make all my experiments on that host. Now, that i do not have neither a domain nor hosting, i had to use that free temporary hosting. Can you recommend a hosting (host + domain) ?

Hi manu0701,
Thanks for yout post. I searched in Google for “hosting 24” and number one it was.
I’ll buy my domain considering you proposal + dns which is not included as i understand , and other factors, in one or two months time. Right now i focus in creating me web page. I believe i’ll find a mail address to contact you in Google’s search.
Thanks again

dns which is not included as i understand

I don’t understand what you mean by this???

I’m using hosting 24 and all i needed to do was sign up with them, pay them and then i was on my way.

I have to call my site a name such as: www.mysite.com. I have to buy that domain name (or as i called it:dns) Sometime, the host server company supplies that domain name and it is paid on a monthly basis. I asked weather the price shown at your original post, includes domain name. Anyway, i’ll have to see what name i want to call my site first.
Thanks

oh k yeah you get domain included in price

In one or two months i intend to buy a domain and i’ll consider buying that from “Hosting 24”.

cool

Hope i’m not too late but you can save $2 a month for a year if you type in this coupon code in when signing up for Hosting24
