I just wanted to know - for those finicky users out there that don’t want to see their own Thumbnail in the “From” line of a Sent Message - which one would look better…
In the instance where the from line is actually shown, I’ve typically seen the name listed, rather than “Me”.
Another thing to keep in mind–is the name hard-coded, or is it simply a foreign key reference in the database? If it’s hard-coded, what are you going to do about username changes?
Yes, that’s what I was thinking. I find that a bit clearer than your own username. But I’d agree with Dave and TB—that it’s better to have nothing, as you know you sent these messages.
And historically, when you look at a Sent E-mail in an E-mail Client (e.g. MS Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) you see a similar…

So, to me, consistency dictates you have the same fields across Message types…
2.) If you have have lots of online E-mail Accounts/Usernames/Personas, then having the Username appear for yourself might be helpful.
For instance, on SitePoint, Ralph goes by “ralph.m”. But on some other site, maybe he goes by “geekboy”. And on some professional website, maybe he goes by “ralph.m*****”?
Just having “Me” for the “FROM:” obfuscates which Username/E-mail you are logged in as. (My site only allows one account per person, but the point is people often use different credentials depending on the type of site…)
I can think of a website I use that only shows me logged in as “Debbie”, which is annoying because I often stay logged in, and often forget what my Username is because it is nowhere to e found on the site?!
but you’re not dealing with email, are you? Perhaps you start a new trend…

Just a thought…
Does any of that really matter? You won’t see the info unless you’re logged in. And you’re showing something you’ve already sent, so what does it matter?
but that’s just my (and others, it appears) opinion. In the end, it’s your site, so do what you want.
I’m just struggling with why a couple of you are “bucking tradition” so much?!
It’s your right to want to change or evolve things, I guess I am just set in my ways and it seems better to have both pieces of the puzzle, so to speak. (That is, who the PM is FROM and who the PM is going TO.)
That’s just me…
Debbie
P.S. Hey, at least I gave in and got rid of the Sender’s Thumbnail on Sent PM’s!!
I use several different addresses for e-mail, so I want my e-mail client to show me the “from” field, so that I can see at a glance which address I was using, should I want to check.
When I send a message from SitePoint, I send it as TechnoBear. I can’t send it as anything else; if I’m here, that’s my name. Yes, I belong to another (quite different) forum under another username, but I’m hardly likely to get them muddled up. After all, I have to know who I am on a given forum in order to log in in the first place.
