Suggestions for anyone attending SXSW Interactive?

I live here in Austin,TX and work at a downtown hotel just a short walk from the Convention Center. Today I saw the weekly paper covering SXSW interactive and talked to a few people RSVPing for events, panels & parties. Sadly I will be working a good majority of the event, but thought I’d make a couple of suggestions to anyone traveling in town for the first time.

For food try-- (all local)

Iron Works BBQ over Stubbs. there is a line for a reason!

Moonshine for a 5 cheese Mac & Cheese that has been featured on food network, not to mention the corndog shrimp.

For Mexican food downtown I lean toward Manuel’s for their use of local produce and the switch to all natural meats.

For vegetarians, you can’t beat the variety at the Wholefoods Market flagship store hot plate & salad bar.

If your looking to kill a few hours across the street from WFM is two Austin staples, Book People & Waterloo Records.

  • taxi from airport to downtown $20-25, try to have cash because the driver will probably tell you his machine isn’t working for cards.

feel free to message any questions.
