I have written an ebook that I wish to sell online. It covers a serious topic. I am debating over whether to just set up a static page website or to use a wordpress blog to sell the book. My issue with a blog is that it will take a considerable amount of time and energy to update posts, and it may not be clear to readers that the book is there for sale but it will probably have more readers. Any thoughts?
The choice will ultimately depend on a whole host of questions:
How do you intend to market the e-book? How do you intend to get people to your website?
If you have a big offline marketing budget, maybe having a static site is ok.
If you want to rely on search engine traffic, then you need a site will lots of quality content. Then a blog might be a better choice.
What is the cost of the e-book?
$5? Ok.
$179? Something higher than $10 will need considerably more salesmanship. You might need to build up trust with quality free content before asking for the sale.
…
These were just a couple of the issues, but I hope it gets you on the right track.
With a blog it will allow potential customers and fans to post comments, etc. In other words it will get updated more often than posting to a static web site. This could potentially help you with PR and thus increase traffic and sales.
But you have to be willing to put the effort and work into keeping the content fresh. Ask yourself this. Why would I come to this site if it offers nothing new?
