Hi, facebook requires https sites only from the end of the month, so I need a SSL Certificate if I want to keep my app live on facebook.
I don’t know anything about SSL Certificates as I haven’t needed them yet and seen them mainly for eCommerce sites.
So, I want to know what my options are and how I can get an SSL Certificate at the cheapest price on my shared web hosting.
My hosting company offers https from about £50 ($80) per year. This seems quite expensive just to keep a facebook app running, but the ad revenue from the app would cover this cost easily.
Do I have any alternatives to this offer, can I get SSL certificates elsewhere for my current web host?
And would the SSL Certificate cover subdomains and addon domains?
How your webite is related with facebook?
Your host is charging a lot for SSL.
Yes, you can buy SSL from anyone and then install the certificate.
Good luck
I don’t understand the installing part of SSL Certificates. I expect that means I need to have control over the server, but I don’t. Would I be able to install it by myself on shared hosting? Or is that not possible, leaving me with the only option of paying my hosting company loads of money for the it.
Firstly Let me bring update some basic thing such as what is actually SSL certificate?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology to encryption the information while transferring on web server and client servers. SSL certificate secures sensitive information as well as communication between web server and client server. Mainly, SSL Certificate helps to protect the customer’s sensitive information such as Credit Card No, Pay Pal Credential, Bank Wire information and digital transactions.
Recently, there is announcement that every face app must deliver HTTPS from Octobers. At the stand point of HTTPS that we bought our Face App SSL from The SSL store which is platinum certificate authority of major SSL brands. They have been offered us the cheapest price SSL certificate of GeoTrust in Just $59/Yr with including platinum support.
Referring their web site page for face book app SSL:
You would be getting robbed at $80 monthly for SSL. A year ago, I got it for $20 a month which is amazingly cheap but $80 is ridiculous.
Get these certificates somewhere else.
You can get one for $9.50/year https://www.rapidsslonline.com/ (I’m not an affiliate or something, found it just a few minutes ago from Google by searching for <cheapest ssl>). And unless you have very special security requirements (e.g. a very big e-commerce store) any SSL cert. would do it.
You can get rapid ssl at $15 per year. rapid ssl are good enough. You must take a dedicated ip from your provider to use ssl certificate. I know some provider who give free setup of ssl certificate. SSl certificate are not as worthy as you said. i have saw many hosting provider give rapid sssl but they charge a lot.
