Span single large binary across multiple DVDs

Hello, all,

I need to copy a DMP file that is approximately 9gig from one machine to another without benefit of a network.

I also am not allowed to install anything like WinZip or other third party app to either computer.

These systems do have Roxio on them, already, and Roxio has an option for spanning disks for large volumes; but it will not work for a single file, only for multiple files.

Any suggestions on how I can do this?

Are you like me, where you cannot insert flash drives (they will not work)? Dunno if that DoD thing is just at my work.

ANY USB device that has firmware will have security guards all up in my grill in less than 30 seconds to escort me out the door as admins disable my accounts because I’ll be fired.

And, yes, the ports are disabled, so it wouldn’t work, anyway. Only a very select few have that permission, here.

So that’s a no? :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you have access to a blu-ray burner

My work isn’t that protective :stuck_out_tongue: , sheesh.

Is it possible the computer is on the same network I assume? Is it possible to do Windows File sharing?

The systems that we are using do not have BD burners in them, and only a select few have the privileges to plug a USB BD burner in, and I’m fairly certain that A) they are very busy, and B) even if they weren’t busy, it would still take a day or two to get one to take time out of his/her schedule to bring it over for this. :frowning:

A decent backup software (maybe the one that comes installed with the OS) should be able to do that.
Else, I used to use a old software called “hacha” (axe) but it is spanish…

Computers are not on the same network. Otherwise, I would have simply done that across the network.

You’re probably not going to do this without a 3rd party program. At least on the storing end, anyway. 7zip would be my goto, if you were able to get something approved.

From what I can tell, looks like Roxio might be able to split files across multiple disks to a certain extent.

Backup to span across disks? I’ll do some looking around and see if that’s an option. Thanks, @molona.

UPDATE: Nope… tried backing up directly to the first DVD - it completed first disk, asked for second disk, placed TOC on second disk, then said that it couldn’t copy files to a disk that wasn’t empty. :frowning:

I can submit a CIPS to have that go through testbed. I’ll get an answer sometime in 2016 or 2017. (We are still waiting on CF11 Server, which was submitted in December… we should have an answer by this December.)

Yes, but only multiple files. A single file cannot be span across more than one DVD in Roxio. :frowning:

CDBurnerXP can do it… but, again, it will be about a year to get that through testbed. IF it gets approval.

Part and parcel of working for DoD in a restricted environment.

This really isn’t the solution I was hoping for.

I just learned that there are two people in my department who have privileges necessary to plug in a USB external storage to the computers on our network and can copy the data, for me. :astonished:

I’ve been here for almost three years. Why am I just now learning this important bit of information??? :gun:
