Skype Username

I am thinking of trying Skype, and am debating what to use for a Username.

As a lot of you know, I am very concerned about privacy, and so I am wondering if I should come up with a Username that can’t be tied to me directly.

Thoughts?

And what kinds of privacy and security issues will I open myself up to by joining Skype?

Sincerely,

Debbie

Why woulnt you use your real name, considering the fact that your Skype ID is used only by people you know, and cant be spammed or something…

1.) Because if I set up Skype or voip, it would likely be used for my new business.

2.) I am worried that phone calls I make and receive using Skype or voip - plus the associated profile - would somehow end up on Google!!

(I found out the hard way when I registered a domain name and business 10 years ago using my personal name and address, what can happen!! I don’t know if I will ever get my Personal Details off of the Internet?!) :frowning:

So I am trying to make sure to NOT “repeat history” if I get a Skype or voip account…

You will probably find that you can’t use just your name—unless it’s something like Edwina Finklebottom or something weird—as most names are already taken. There’s no problem making up a username. Plenty of people express their creativity that way. I wanted mine to by SkypeGoat, but it was already taken.

You should to select your real name in the skype username. It is easy for the people to recognize to you.

Debbie,

Check this out: http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/

It is a tool used for generating random identities when signing up for things (like Skype).
Maybe you’ll find it useful.

For a user name why not try “Support-and-Help-Desk-for-My-Web-Site”.

I am not sure if the hyphens are acceptable, if not then replace with a suitable alternative.
