Site doesn't work right in IE8

The site that I’m working on works fine in chrome and firefox, but I’m having problems getting it to work right in internet explorer 8.

I was having problems with getting the container with background to stretch with the content of the page. I was able to fix this problem by adding the following code to my html.

<div style=“clear: both; height: 1px;”><!-- clear all floats –></div>

The problem I’m having now is that in ie8 the bodycontent has no space at the top between the page title bar and the bodycontent.

I’m new at this so I don’t know a lot about css. If anyone could tell me what I’m doing wrong I would really appreciate it.

It looks fine in IE 8…what I think you are having troubles with is IE 8 in compat mode.
There is no space because there is no defined margins or padding you are just using the default browser settings.

I’ve added a value for margins and it worked. It adds more space then I want in chrome and firefox, but as long as it fixes the no spacing in ie 8 I’ll have to live with it.

Thank you for your help.
