Simple css question

I am new at web design (mainly a programmer)
so I want to give at a <p> a style.
I have this code

<div class="simple">
       etc
    <div>
           some
    </div>
    <p class="hint">
         some
       </p>
       some
</div>

And I have this style

#simple p.hint
{
	color: gray;
	font-size: 90%;
	margin: 0 0 0 110px;
}

That does not work for now.How can I write the css code?

# indicates an id, not a class.
Try

.simple p.hint
{
	color: gray;
	font-size: 90%;
	margin: 0 0 0 110px;
}
