Should you offer customers the option of buying related accessories on the product page?

We are making a product that has a lot of accessories available to it. The problem I am having is that I can offer all of the accessories to the customer as “add ons” on the product page but relaying the information about them is hard.

These accessories have specs that need to be read about but relaying that on the same page with the information about the main unit they will work on is hard.

Is it a wise idea to offer 6 product accessories with descriptions within a description of another product? We figured they would want to buy it as they go along but I am unsure now.

Here is my idea: https://www.vitavibe.com/CORE-Series--Adjustable-StallSwedish-Wall-Bar--With-Chin-Up-Bar-_p_327.html

The problem is that all the information in the description can not be really shown. There are more pictures of the accessories that can’t be easily shown. I do not see a lot of websites doing what we are trying here. I am unsure if I am “making new ground” or just doing something dumb.

The page is not live and so not in its final format. No judgments haha

For me i started to get a bit lost with all the different ad on descriptions lower down the page. The way i’ve seen it done on other sites which worked well for me was a slider with the additional options displayed.

I think figleaves do it quite well (it is an underwear site so you may not want to open at work but it isn’t dodgy as such) e.g this page for some pajama bottoms https://www.figleaves.com/uk/calvin-klein-woven-cotton-jogger/CNK-011683.html?dwvar_CNK-011683_color=751407&cgid=nightwear-pyjamas#start=4 has a section below saying ‘also in this range’ which in your case could list the accessories.

And below that the relatively standard ‘customers also bought’ slider.

Note that they are both much smaller representations rather than the full size you have currently.

You could also consider opening the ad ons in a modal window linking each from the tick/options

As with a lot of things like this I just have a look at what the really big guys are doing, not sure what country you are in but any big department store with a strong online presence. They spend a lot of money getting it right. You don’t have to copy them entirely but pick the bits you think work well for you if you were buying something.

You found them to be confusing? The idea was to try and upsell by offering the products it works with on the same page as the product.

We might should add a “frequently bought together” slider and focus more on the actual product instead.

You could perhaps add “info icons” to the add ons select list. The icons could show a info box in viewport center on hover and a modal on click an “expand” button. The modal shows a close button to revert to the hover box for easy checking/navigating items in the select list.

The modal could contain all purchasing details that need to be read and a scroll box for lengthy descriptions.

It would be intuitive to use I think and the user wouldn’t lose sight of the main product.

Mind I’ve not seen this done anywhere yet.
