Should We Stop Pushing the Web Forward?

We are living in one of the most exciting times in the history of mankind in terms of how data, information and ideas are represented, exchanged, produced and consumed. Writing and printing, and their impact on society, took centuries to expand around the world; we are seeing the internet revolution go from prehistory to futuristic in our lifetime. And some people want to stop the introduction of new techniques to support that change?

Sure there’s a lot of hype. Sure there are lots of snake-oil vendors who deserve to be tarred and feathered. Time will separate the wheat from the chaff. But halting innovation (if that were possible) hardly seems a desirable option.
