Should this traffic be considered too much?

Hi.

I just got a hosting account about a week ago, I launched my site today, and have had problems with sql features and phpmyadmin. When I tried to check some tables, it showed an error along the lines of the server being out of diskpace, I have a hard time believing that. Maybe I remember incorrect, or maybe it was memory.

Whatever the case is, the phpMyAdmin panel displays the following

The additional features for working with linked tables have been deactivated. To find out why click here…

Server: localhost

Checking the traffic, in phpMyAdmin, the stats are as follows, for three and a half days of runtime:

Traffic 1 ø per hour
Received 2,759 MiB 32 MiB
Sent 66 GiB 791 MiB
Total 69 GiB 823 MiB

Connections ø per hour %
max. concurrent connections 80 — —
Failed attempts 663 7.72 0.15%
Aborted 1,549 18.05 0.35%
Total 447 k 5,210.98 100.00%

I have little experience with and feel for this, should this traffic be considered normal/acceptable on a shared hosting server? May it be connected with the issues im experiencing (which by the way, I experienced none of whilst testing the site during the past week, they appeared quite suddenly today and the mysql problems causes some functions not to work).

Certainly I should contact the hosting provider, in the meantime I am interested in getting a picture of what kind of traffic to expect on a server. Thanks on beforehand.

I do not think that that question should be asked here. I think you are wasting your time. You’d better contact your current web hosting provider and ask them about help. I’m pretty sure they should and they will help you.

It started to work again the night after I opened this thread. No issues again so far.

That sounds like your hosting provider is having a problem with the server containing the databases - it probably has nothing whatever to do with your site - on shared hosting there can be hundreds of accounts sharing the same server.

Thank you for the response  . I am aware that it’s not a site issue, the website is based on Wordpress. Researching the problem I found this http://www.knowledgesutra.com/forums/topic/59451-wordpress-categories-disappear/ . That is how I was lead to check phpMyAdmin, and found the errors. (by the way that does not link to my hosting provider)

How does this technically work. Are the databases stored on a separate server dedicated for this, or are they stored on the same server as the rest of the website?

I still wonder about the traffic. How much traffic can be considered too much traffic?

Mind you, it is a cheap hosting account, but the site does not require much more than the neccessary functions to be working. The website doesn’t serve any complex or demanding purposes.

If nothing else, I will be back after I have contacted the hosting provider.

One or the other depending on how the hosting provider sets it up.
